Los Angeles Galaxy striker Joao Klauss will undergo surgery to repair ligament damage on a foot on Friday and will be sidelined until after the break for the World Cup, head coach Greg Vanney announced.
The Galaxy will return from the break on July 17 against Los Angeles FC.
Klauss has recorded a team-best five goals in eight appearances (seven starts) this season. He sustained his injury during the Galaxy's 2-2 draw against FC Dallas last Saturday.
The 29-year-old Brazilian was acquired from St. Louis City on Jan. 27 for $2.375 million in cash.
Klauss has totaled 30 goals and 10 assists in 87 career appearances (73 starts) with the two MLS teams.
He joined St. Louis City for its expansion season in 2023 after professional stints in Germany, Belgium, Finland and Austria.
