Denmark prepared contingency measures in January for a possible U.S. military move against Greenland, including sending blood supplies and explosives to the Arctic island, Danish broadcaster DR reported on Thursday, citing anonymous sources in Denmark and elsewhere in Europe.
According to the report, Danish troops stationed in Greenland carried explosives intended to destroy runways in Nuuk and Kangerlussuaq to prevent U.S. military aircraft from landing. Danish blood banks were also mobilized in case of possible fighting.
DR said its report was based on interviews conducted over the past year with 12 sources from the Danish government, military and intelligence services, as well as senior officials in France and Germany.
Iran's envoy in Vienna has asked the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to condemn the Israeli attack at Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), calling the attack "a very grave and serious situation."
In an interview published on Thursday, Reza Najafi, ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna, told Press TV that Iran's Atomic Energy Organization chief Mohammad Eslami had sent a letter to IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, urging him to condemn the Israeli attack at Bushehr NPP. However, this letter and previous ones from the Iranian side remained unanswered.
Najafi called the Israeli attack "intentional," which occurred 200 meters from the nuclear reactor on Tuesday evening. He said this was the third strike in proximity to Iranian nuclear facilities after Natanz and Isfahan were attacked at the beginning of the current U.S.-Israeli strike on Iran.
Moscow calls for an immediate end to the hostilities resulting from the "unprovoked aggression" by the United States and Israel against Iran, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Thursday in a statement regarding the unfolding situation in the Persian Gulf region.
The ministry said that Moscow consistently advocates "the need to create conditions for peaceful, secure, and neighborly coexistence between friendly Arab countries and Iran."
"We emphasize that the first step on this path must be the immediate renunciation by the United States and Israel of their military adventure," the statement said.
The European Central Bank (ECB) on Thursday kept key interest rates unchanged as heightened geopolitical tensions weigh on the outlook of inflation and economy in the euro area.
The interest rates on the deposit facility, through which the central bank steers its monetary policy, remains unchanged at 2 percent.
"The war in the Middle East has made the outlook significantly more uncertain, creating upside risks for inflation and downside risks for economic growth," said the ECB in a press release.
