Su Yiming earns China's first medal at Milan-Cortina Games as difficulty spikes in big air
Defending champion Su Yiming delivered China's first medal of the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics on Saturday, claiming bronze in a fiercely contested men's snowboard big air final defined by soaring difficulty.
With consistency proving decisive in the high-stakes showdown, 21-year-old Su struck a careful balance between ambition and control after rebounding from a fall in qualification to reach the final.
He opened with a clean and confident 1980-degree spin, earning 88.25 points, but could not fully capitalize thereafter, touching down with his hand on both his second and third runs for scores of 73.75 and 80.25 respectively. Under the big air format that counts the best two of three runs, Su totaled 168.50 points to secure third place.
Greenland, Denmark FMs signal "not where we want to be" in U.S. talks
Greenlandic Foreign Minister Vivian Motzfeldt and Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said Saturday that ongoing negotiations with the United States are "still not where we want to be," signaling that a final agreement remains distant.
Speaking at a trilateral press conference with Canada to mark the opening of Canada's first consulate in Nuuk, Motzfeldt acknowledged that the situation has improved compared with a month ago, citing the establishment of a diplomatic track and direct dialogue with Washington.
However, she noted that Greenland is "still not where we want to be" in the negotiations and that "there is a long way to go, so it is too early to say where we end."
Voting begins in Japan's general election
Voting in Japan's general election began on Sunday morning, with over 1,200 candidates competing for 465 seats in the House of Representatives, the powerful lower chamber of parliament.
The primary focus of the election is whether the ruling coalition of the Liberal Democratic Party and the Japan Innovation Party will secure a majority and allow the administration of Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to continue, or whether the opposition will expand its strength and block that outcome.
Polling stations across the country will close at 8 p.m. local time, and ballot counting is expected to last late into the night.
Trump says more talks on Iran next week
U.S. President Donald Trump said Friday that his administration will hold more talks on Iran early next week, hours after having a "very good" indirect dialogue with Iran in Oman amid high tensions.
"We likewise had very good talks on Iran," Trump told reporters on board Air Force One en route to his Mar-a-Lago private club in Florida for the weekend.
"We have to see what that deal is. But I think Iran looks like they want to make a deal very badly," said Trump. "We're going to meet again early next week." Meanwhile, Trump warned that if Iran fails to make a deal over its nuclear program, "the consequences are very steep."
