Stacy Lewis shot a 5-under 66, the best round so far this week, to grab a share of the 36-hole lead at the Ladies Scottish Open in North Berwick, Scotland, on Friday.
Lewis is tied with Spain's Azahara Munoz (69) at 5-under 137 at The Renaissance Club.
After fog caused Thursday's first round to start two hours late and ultimately left 27 players unable to complete their round that day, everybody completed 36 holes by the end of Friday.
And no player finished their 36 holes better than Lewis. After a bogey on the par-3 12th left her at 1 under for the tournament, Lewis closed her round with four straight birdies. And that was after Lewis began her day as one of the players still needing to complete their first round.
"It's been a while," Lewis told reporters of the last time she had to finish one round and play another on the same day. "With COVID stuff, we are not allowed to take shuttles, either, so it's probably a good mile walk through the grass. I was out at 9:00 last night and walked back out there early this morning. Everybody's feet are hurting. We were all kind of rubbing our backs at the end. It was definitely an adventure the last two days."
Lewis has 12 career wins in her 12 seasons on tour, including the 2013 Women's British Open at the Old Course at St. Andrews. But she has only one win since 2014 -- the 2017 Cambia Portland Classic, after which she donated her $195,000 winner's check to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. She also gave birth to a daughter since her last win, in October 2018.
But the 35-year-old certainly feels like she is getting her game back.
"Well, the COVID break has done wonders for my golf swing, I'll tell you that, and my body," she added. "And so this break, I met some ladies at home, they have helped me a lot just understanding how my body works and getting inflammation out of my joints, and helping me manage the day-to-day and not be hurt so much, and be a little bit more free, and in all that, kind of learn some things about my golf swing and my setup that my body is not able to do."
Munoz actually had a shot to own sole possession of the lead heading into the weekend, but bogeyed 18 to put a damper on her round.
Nonetheless, Munoz is happy where she is at, especially considering where she was at last weekend. The 32-year-old was disqualified from the Marathon LPGA Classic last Sunday after failing to sign her scorecard.
After shooting a first-round 68 while playing in the first group Thursday, Munoz posted three birdies and the lone bogey on Friday.
"Very excited," Munoz said. "I haven't been in this position for a while, obviously, since last year. I'm really happy, hopefully keep doing what I'm doing and we'll see on Sunday."
Jennifer Song, who followed a first-round 68 with a 1-under 70 on Friday, is alone in third at 4-under 138, followed by Amy Olson and Germany's Olivia Cowen, who each shot an even-par 71 to enter the weekend at 3-under 139.
First-round leader Nicole Broch Larsen of Denmark shot a 73 on Friday and sits in a four-way tie for sixth place at 2-under 140.
